Based on: Star Wars  by George Lucas Created by: George Lucas Writers: Matt Michnovetz, Brent Friedman, Dave Filoni, Charles Murray Starring:  Matt Lanter (Anakin), James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan), Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka), Dee Bradley Baker (Clones), Matthew Wood (Grievous), Tom Kane (Yoda & narrator), Catherine Taber (Padmé), Terrence C. Carson (Mace Windu), Corey Burton (Count Dooku), Nika Futterman (Asajj Ventress), Phil LaMarr (Bail Organa), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan), Sam Witwer (Darth Maul) P.S. Let me just say I felt  personally  betrayed when I learned (embarrassingly recently) that the prequel movie actors did not voice their own characters, yet they sound identical. I may need to have a word with Disney about this. Star Wars: The Clone Wars  final arc trailer: This was actually supposed to be a blog for season 5, but as just as casual Star Wars  fan, all the individual seasons kind of ran tog...

Mayfair Witches: Season 1

Image
Based on: Lives of the Mayfair Witches  1990 novel trilogy by Anne Rice Created by: Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford Starring: Alexandra Daddario (Rowan), Tongayi Chirisa (Ciprien), Jack Huston (Lasher), Harry Hamlin (Cortland) Written by: Michelle Ashford, Esta Spalding, Michael Goldbach, Sarah Cornwell, Lindsey Villarreal, Sean Reycraft, Mary Angélica Molina Mayfair Witches  season 1 trailer:   My motivation for jumping into this one was simple: I love magic and any show with a strong magical presence!  The trailer depicted a protagonist who's successful in her career as a doctor when she realizes she can perform magic and her world is turned upside-down. Not exactly the most original premise, but few plots under the sun are. My eye in a new show is on how much they make me care about the characters and whether it's executed creatively. I was pleased to see this one succeeded on both accounts.  I had very few compl...

Heartstopper: Season 2

Image
Based on: graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman  Created by: Alice Oseman Directed by: Euros Lyn  Written by: Alice Oseman Starring: Kit Connor (Nick), Joe Locke (Charlie), William Gao (Tao), Yasmin Finney (Elle), Corinna Brown (Tara), Kizzy Edgell (Darcy), Tobie Donovan (Isaac), Sebastian Croft (Ben), Rhea Norwood (Imogen), Fisayo Akinade (Nathan Ajayi), Nima Taleghani (Youssef Farouk),  Heartstopper  season 2 trailer: I really didn't expect this show would maintain its quality into season 2.  But it did.  The first season had a really special, unique, plot-driven excitement and feel that depended on a specific character arc that could not be extended or replicated. Basically the whole season was about Nick realizing he was queer, and once he did, I felt like the show was.... done.  But it wasn't.  In fact, the second season dove right into a new, subsequent arc that I...

Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre

Image
Created by: Junji Ito Written by: Junji Ito & Kaoru Sawada  Starring the voices of:  Takahiro Sakurai, Romi Park, Hisako Kanemoto, Yoko Hikasa, Natsumi Takamori, Hajime Iijima, Risa Shimizu, Ayaka Asai, Tomoko Kaneda, Riho Sugiyama, Daisuke Kishio, Iori Nomizu, Rie Suegara, Yumiri Hanamori, Taku Yashiro, Tomokau Sugita, Hiroyuki Yoshino, Yūji Mitsuya, Yoshimasa Hosoya, Yuka Saitō, Yutaka Aoyama, Hiro Shimono, Ryōtarō Okiayu, Sara Matsumoto, Takatsugu, Chikamatsu, Ryōhei Kimura, M.A.O, Aya Uchida, Yuki Kaji, Tomoe Hanba, Fumiko Orikasa, Takashi Kondō, Shōko Nakagawa, Mie Sonozaki, Tomoko Kaneda ( wow, that was a lot) Trailer:   I don't know what I expected going into this, but this wasn't quite it!  First off, I didn't initially realize it was going to be animated. I was expecting live action shorts, maybe in the vein of Black Mirror , except, you know, Japanese, and horror (not just cynicism). I also thought some might be linked f...

The Rig: Season 1

Image
Created by: David Macpherson Produced by:  Derek Wax, John Strickland, and  Suzanne Reid Written by: David Macpherson, Meg Satler, and Matthew Jacobs Morgan Starring:  Emily Hampshire (Rose), Iain Glen (Magnus), Martin Compston (Fulmer), Mark Bonnar (Alwyn), Rochenda Sandall (Cat), Owen Teale (Lars), Richard Pepple (Grant), Calvin Demba (Baz), Emun Elliott (Leck), Abraham Popoola (Easter), Stuart McQuarrie (Colin), Molly Vevers (Heather), Dougie Rankin (William), Nikhil Parmar (Harish), Mark Addy (David) The Rig  season 1 trailer : One of my initial reasons for trying out this show was to see oil rig environments depicted. Even though it's fiction and not meant to be accurate, I still found it fascinating to have the environment replicated, and I agreed with the concept idea-- it's a great place for a thriller series.  The Rig  is about a rig team that's due for their shore le...

Kim Possible: Season 4 (Final)

Image
Created & Produced by: Bob Schooley & Mark McCorkle Written by:  Kyle Menke, Tom Bernardo, Alan Wan, Kalvin Lee, James Yang, Eugene Salandra, Dave Knott, Doug Murphy, Larry Scholl, Louie del Carmen, Adam Van Wyk, Troy Adomitis, Dave Bullock, Lyndon Ruddy, Ken Laramay, and Nicholas Filippi Starring: Christy Carlson Romano (Kim Possible), Will Friedle (Ron Stoppable), Nancy Cartwright (Rufus), Tahj Mowry (Wade), John DiMaggio (Dr. Drakken), Nicole Sullivan (Shego) I try to include season trailers, but with shows this old, it's pretty much impossible to find an official one. So instead, I'm including the series theme song:  For what this animated series was (and was allowed to be) at this time on Disney's network, it still holds up excellently.  I phrase it that way because I usually expect any truly great series to grow up over its seasons, for characters to develop significantly, for plots to change, motivations to shift, and for backg...
