National Treasure: Edge of History

Image
Based on (continuation of): 2004 National Treasure  movie (dir. by Jon Turteltaub) and its sequel Created by: Cormac & Marianne Wibberley Starring: Lisette Olivera (Jess), Zuri Reed (Tasha), Antonio Cipriano (Oren), Jordan Rodrigues (Ethan), Jake Austin Walker (Liam), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Billie), Lyndon Smith (Agent Ross) Edge of History  trailer:  Edge of History  was a joy to watch from beginning to end.  Although its relation to the original movies is distant at best, I would argue that Edge of History  doesn't need that qualification. It establishes itself as independent and shines bright without the " National Treasure " part of its title.  The series is about Jess, a young woman who learns she is a descendant of the Daughters of the Plumed Serpent, a group of women who hid treasures from the Spanish Inquisition. Upon learning this heritage, she becomes swept up in an international hunt p...

Titans: Season 4 (Final)

Image
Based on:  Based on: DC's Teen Titans comics by Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani Developed by: Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, & Greg Berlanti Starring: Brenton Thwaites (Dick Grayson/Nightwing), Anna Diop (Koriand'r), Teagan Croft (Rachel Roth/Raven), Ryan Potter (Gar Logan/Beast Boy), Joshua Orpin (Conner Kent/Superboy), Jay Lycurgo (Tim Drake/Robin), Franka Potente (Mother Mayhem), Joseph Morgan (Brother Blood) Titans  season 4 trailer:  Being a live-action adaptation of many of my very favorite DC characters, I really  wanted to love this show....  It started out quite promising. I gave season 1 a glowing review on Facebook (before this blog's time, I think) because it set up a lot of awesome stuff, and my hopes at that time were sky high. But I'm very sad to say that... upon the season 2 premiere, and onward for the remainder of the entire series, it was just... not great.  Before I talk about what I di...

Dark Winds: Season 1

Image
Based on: 1970s & 80s Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman Created by: Graham Roland Starring: Zahn McClarnon (Joe Leaphorn), Kiowa Gordon (Jim Chee), Jessica Matten (Bernadette Manuelito), Deanna Allison (Emma Leaphorn), Rainn Wilson ("Devoted Dan"), Elva Guerra (Sally Growing Thunder), Jeremiah Bitsui (James Tso), Eugene Brave Rock (Frank Nakai), Noah Emmerich (Leland Whitover) Dark Winds  season 1 trailer: Another series I dove into for one of my side passions (learning about Indigenous culture), this show absolutely did not disappoint.  It's always sensitive finding media (TV series/movies/books) that accurately depict the cultures I'm curious about, and honestly, as someone on the outside, I don't think I can ever be 100% sure. At least not without first-hand experience, which I don't have much of. But I feel as confident as someone in my position can about the accuracy of Dark Winds . It seems tha...

His Dark Materials: Season 3 (Final)

It was so fantastical, so magical, and so exciting that every episode kept me enthralled and wondering what kind of adventure the characters ...

Willow: Disney+ Series

Image
Based on: 1988 film of the same name by George Lucas Developed by: Jonathan Kasdan  Starring: Warwick Davis (Willow), Ellie Bamber (Elora Danan/Dove), Ruby Cruz (Kit), Erin Kellyman (Jade), Tony Revolori (Prince Graydon), Amar Chadha-Patel (Thraxus Boorman), Dempsey Bryk (Prince Airk) Willow  season trailer:  This was a very well-written, acted, and produced series, and I find myself sadly in a position of defending this statement because it seemed to garner near-universal criticism.  It's hard to say where the fault in this lies, but I feel confident in at least saying it was not with the production crew, writers, or actors. I think it was a combination of Disney pushing some themes a little too strongly and audiences having fairly closed minds--or simply looking for a greater sense nostalgia that wasn't quite there.  The Disney+ series serves as a sequel to the original movie, though not much of the origin...
